The Wickow Backgammon Club was founded in 1996. The clubs home is at Chester Beatty's Ashford, Wicklow tournaments and ad hoc matches take place there and at the homes of members.
 
THE WICKLOW OPEN Tournament: Sat 7th of Nov 2015, Chester Beatty's, Ashford, Co.Wicklow. 1pm Registration. The tournament was founded by Paul Davitt in 1998 and the Shark Trophy, presented to the winner, was created by Sculptor, Paddy McCormac. The event has been attended by top Irish Players each year since. The tournament consists of a Main Event, a Consolation, and a Last Chance Tournament. The International tournament welcomes all new-comers. Ashford Co.Wicklow is a 50 minute drive from Dublin Airport, southward on the M50 then onto the M11 until you reach Ashford, which and has hotels, b&bs, bars, and can cater to all your needs during your visit.

 

  The Wicklow Open Backgammon Tournament in its 17th year Ireland's second longest running tournament was hosted in style by Chester Beatty's in Ashford on Sat 7th of Nov 2015. Since its inception the open has been attended by Ireland's top backgammon players and this year was no different.The field included current Irish Champion and former Wicklow Open Champion Jamie Degabriele, former Irish Champion and Wicklow Champion Felix Vink and current Cork Open Champion Shea Mulhall. However to the great delight of local enthusiasts this Shark Trophy will be staying in the garden county as local player Kerrin Buck is 2015 Wicklow Open Champion.
